10 Natural Spring Cleaning Hacks to Keep Your Home Spick and Span

March is upon us which means flowers in bloom, warmer weather, and the dreaded phrase… “spring cleaning.” Digging up the dirt and grime that has sat for the past few months can be tiresome if not disgusting. Even if you do tackle all of your desired tasks, your home is often left with an undesirable, chemical scent. To save you some time and frustration, we’ve compiled a list of chemical-free, deep-cleaning hacks that will have you wondering why you’d never thought of them in the first place:

  1. Add a lazy susan to your fridge

    1. Step up your organization game with a lazy susan. With this addition, you will not only save space but also cut down on spillage.

  2. Run vinegar through the dishwasher

    1. To eliminate odors and grime from your dishwasher, place a cup of vinegar right side up in the top rack without other dishes and run it for a cycle.

  3. Use baking soda on your stovetop

    1. Sprinkle baking soda on a greasy stove top and wipe down residue with a wet cloth to get it looking sparkly clean.

  4. Filter out coffee maker gunk with water and vinegar

    1. Fill the reservoir of your coffee maker with a half water, half vinegar mixture and allow it to run through a drip cycle. Following the cycle, let this solution sit for a few minutes, empty it out, and rinse the pot twice for best results.

  5. Expedite dusting time with tongs

    1. Attach a clean rag to tongs and clamp onto blinds to clean both sides simultaneously.

  6. Freshen up your mattress with baking soda

    1. Sprinkle baking soda on the surface of your mattress, let it sit for a few hours, then vacuum it up every six months to keep it fresh.

  7. Clean metalware with lemon and salt

    1. Eliminate rust and mildew on copper and brass with a half-cut lemon, sprinkled with a layer of salt.

  8. Unblock your drains with baking soda and vinegar

    1. Pour a pot of boiling hot water down your drain, dump in about 1/2 c. baking soda, and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, pour a mixture of 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of very hot water on top of the baking soda. Cover with a drain plug if you have one and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Flush one more time with a pot of boiling water.

  9. Deodorize your toilet with vinegar

    1. Pour a 1/2 cup baking soda and 1 cup white vinegar into the toilet bowl. When the fizzing stops, swish with a scrub brush, and flush.

  10. Perfume your room

    1. Mix ¼ cup vodka, 1 cup water, 15 drops lavender essential oil, 10 drops tea tree essential oil, and 5 drops eucalyptus essential oil in a spray bottle for an all-natural room freshener.

Happy spring cleaning!
